In this video, we explore the new and surprising discovery of the shapes of distant galaxies in the early universe, made with the James Webb Space Telescope. We learn how these galaxies are flat and elongated, rather than round and symmetrical, and how this is different from what we see in the nearby universe. We also discuss some of the possible reasons and implications for this difference, and some of the challenges and mysteries that remain to be solved.

Chapters:
00:00 Introduction
00:37 How do we measure the shapes of distant galaxies?
02:32 What are the shapes of distant galaxies in the early universe?
05:14 Why are the shapes of distant galaxies in the early universe different from the shapes of nearby galaxies?
09:49 Outro
